If memory serves me correctly, K= 9, and A=0 indicating my 9m/m West German SIG-SAUER P228 was birthed in 1990. It should read something like 'KA' or 'KF'. As to a date code, all West German 'proofed' SIG's have a two letter date code right underneath the barrel, just forward of the dust cover. Congratulations on your purchase of a SIG P220A. It is ALL stainless, and shows very little 'smiley' wear on the.40S&W barrel. I sadly noted that the Sig case did not accompany the P239 and the dealer said he will attempt find it. The serial number is S4-504xx (I checked the S4 under high magnification, and it is definitely a '4' and not an 'A'). It’s impossible to decode a SIG serial number to determine when it was proofed, although you can try to locate the range of your SIG’s serial number in this list to approximate when it was made, or call SIG Sauer with the serial number and see if they have any info in their. Note that a gun’s date code is different than its serial number. This may not be the absolute best way to date your gun- but it is free and Sig charges a not-small sum of $$ to research your date from the serial number. Also, polymer-floor Sig mags (such as the 239) have the same date code imprinted into the bottom of the mag baseplate.
